From Indie Wire. The Dallas Film Society and the AFI announced the end of their nearly million dollar three-year agreement that saw the launch of a major new film fest in Texas. However Michael Cain, formerly of the Deep Ellum Film Festival before AFM Dallas International Film Festival began, said they will hold the renamed Dallas International Film Festival in late March or early April. Michael Cain, also head of the Dallas Film Society said it will continue to present programming throughout the year as well.
Announced with fanfare in 2006, the first AFI Dallas fest began the following spring. Its inaugural lineup featured a whopping 200 titles for year one, backed by a sizable sponsorship from Target.Dallas has accepted the festival and it will continue. The question here is how long will AFI continue to support its own L.A. based film festival?
